The Book Corner
Each chapter from The Quotable Runner covers an aspect of running, starting with a background story followed by pages of quotes from runners, coaches and/or elite athletes that the author collected over decades. It does not flow as smoothly as a normal story book, and I find myself taking a break after reading two or three chapters.
Chapters that I found interesting include:
- Eat, Drink, but Be Wary
- Training
- The Marathon
There is ample use of the word steeplechase; almost to the point there I am tempted to grab a dictionary to find out what it is.
Oh yes, here’s one of the many quotes in the book:
Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos. –Don Kardong
Again
My ears catch the word “jog” spoken in a nearby cube.
Once again, he’s trying to get into the morning running jogging routine. Looking back at previous blog entries, his last venture into the world of running was around June 17th, 2008.
Will he forge this into a habit or will it fade away?
I’ll let you know.
The Small Box
The doorbell rings and I hear a man mutter something. Opening the door, I find a small box on my doorstep.
These must be the three running books that I ordered.
They are non-fiction works, but I consider them fantasy as they are unattainable. So, I will opt for just reading about it.
Nothing (Update 1)
“What are you going to do for the rest of the day?” Before I can answer the source of sarcasm guesses, “Watch The Days of Our Lives?”
A digital converter box, I own not. I still have a monolithic CRT television; it’s not connected to anything as my computer serves as its replacement. Consider it a form of simplification or being cheap.
“Umm, no.” I reply. “I’ll probably go running around my neighborhood.”
“Running?” There’s a pause. “Literally?” She swings her arms to and fro as if she’s jogging in place.
“Yup.”
